Todays mobile units and devices such as smart phones, tablet computers, etc, usually provides for a 3.5 mm analogue output for headphones. Of course, it is also possible to connect these mobile devices to other audio devices, such as e.g. in-car sound and computer speakers.

It is becoming increasingly popular with a hi-fi system of just a pair of active stereo speakers, a headphone set and on-line music providers in addition to a local music library on a NAS server, all accessible from mobile computer devices.
