What is an active speaker?

An active speaker has a large number of applications and can be a great solution in places where the amount of space available is minimal. An active speaker does not require any amplifier or complicated cabling; the only thing that is needed to play music is a player. The amplifier and the connectivity are built into the speaker itself. A TV can, e.g., be connected directly to a set of active optical input speakers, using a digital cable, for excellent sound quality on the thin flat screens. An active speaker with Bluetooth will also allow you to stream music from an Android or iPhone wirelessly to the speaker.

Passive or active speakers?

There is plenty of advantage to choosing an active set of speakers. The benefits of choosing a set of active speakers instead of passive are many. First of all, the amplifier is built into the speaker itself so that you can save space and the expensive parts like an amplifier, and speaker cables. The active speaker is at the same time a tailor-made product, as the unit and amplifier are paired to provide the maximum capability of the cabinet they are put in. In this way, there will never be a bottleneck which can happen if you put a set of good passive speakers, to a low powered amplifier.

Active speaker for the computer

Great computer speakers for games, movies, and music! A couple of solid PC speakers will make the gaming experience much better, but of course, it is also preferable to listen to music or watch a good movie on the computer.

There is a large selection of cheap as well as expensive computer speakers - both with and without a subwoofer. It is therefore essential to decide on what your primary focus will be with the PC speakers before you buy, so the need is best covered. For games and movies, it is explicitly recommended to choose a solution including a subwoofer, to get the right feeling when throwing the hand grenade in your favorite game or when the latest action movie rolls across the screen.
